A personalized plan for pursuing your goals

A financial plan serves as the blueprint for pursuing the goals in your life. We follow a carefully designed process to customize a plan for you. Each of the following steps is designed to take into consideration specific important factors related to your individual circumstances, personal goals and financial well-being.

We believe that before we can develop an integrated financial planning and wealth management strategy for you and your family, we first need to gain a thorough understanding of your needs, concerns and expectations. This allows us to fully understand where you are now and clarify where you want to go.

Some of the most important considerations include:

  • What are your goals?
  • What does money mean to you?
  • What keeps you awake at night?
  • What do you want to accomplish?
  • Where do you see yourself in five years versus 15?

We begin understanding your situation by:

  • Completing an investment policy questionnaire
  • Determining your level of tolerance for investment risk and volatility
  • Evaluating your current holdings, your previous investment experience and your expectations of us as your financial advisors
  • Reviewing your comprehensive financial situation and establishing goals

After identifying your objectives, circumstances and expectations, our next task is to develop a portfolio that addresses your current needs while building the foundation to meet your future goals, which may include:

  • Generating a reliable income
  • Planning for retirement
  • Funding all or part of your children’s or grandchildren’s education
  • Enhancing your lifestyle
  • Building a second home
  • Providing extended care

We develop our recommendations by:

  • Using forward-looking risk, return and correlation assumptions for different asset classes
  • Optimizing asset allocation and building efficient portfolios from the selected asset classes
  • Searching for high-quality managers and companies that have rewarded investors for risk taken
  • Continuously monitoring each element of our asset selection process to help ensure we build a high-quality portfolio for you

We primarily employ long-term value investing strategies designed to achieve needed growth and income without assuming undue risk. Based on your goals, constraints and aspirations, we’ll determine an appropriate mix of investments that may include stocks and bonds, mutual funds, separately managed accounts, and other types of assets to help meet your objectives.*

In addition, where appropriate, we’ll employ the asset management services offered by Raymond James. These services enable us to offer managed portfolios employing sophisticated construction and asset-allocation strategies as well as managers whose performance is continuously monitored and assessed.

Once we've developed a financial program that strives to meet your needs and addresses your goals, our next step is to implement it. In addition to Jim McLean’s extensive experience, the fresh perspectives and clear insights of our extended family help enable us to bridge generations and more fully accommodate the nature and scope of the needs of your children and your grandchildren when putting your plan into action.

Your life is not static, and your investment strategy shouldn’t be, either. That’s why after implementing your portfolio, we’ll constantly monitor it to help ensure that its design, allocation and performance remain in balance and aligned with the goals you’ve set. One of the most important aspects of this step is ensuring we keep up to date on your changing circumstances, needs and goals, which is why we’ll stay in close touch with you.

Your goals, our commitment

Regardless of how you envision the future or the structure of your portfolio, we strive to remain committed to your goals by:

  • Regularly meeting with you face-to-face and holding telephone reviews of your accounts
  • Responding to all of your requests quickly and professionally
  • Continuously monitoring your investments and providing timely feedback on the markets
  • Remaining available to discuss your concerns and answer all of your questions
  • Always treating you in a courteous and respectful manner

To help ensure the full range of your planning needs are met, we’re happy to work with your other professionals – such as your attorney or CPA – or to assist you in locating professionals, as appropriate.
